Regenerative Agriculture in Practice

Welcome to Lucky Deay Farm. We are a small family farm committed to humanely raising the highest quality 100% grass-fed beef, pasture-raised pork, chicken and eggs, while improving the fertility and water-retaining ability of our soil. You can feel good knowing that the quality of our meat and eggs reflects the improved health and welfare of the livestock, and more abundant pastures.

Our promise to you: No chemicals, hormones, herbicides, or pesticides on our farm, ever.

ABOUT THE FARM

We purchased our farm in 2007, and began an exciting adventure.

After observing practices common in this area, getting familiar with the land and its potential, and clarifying our goals, we began a transition away from row cropping annuals and exporting hay.

We planted native grasses and started grazing cattle, pigs, and chickens with the goal of humanely raising delicious food of the highest quality while restoring and rejuvenating the soil through animal impact.

The Farmers

Rob & Gretchen Deay

Rob grew up in suburban Chicago, in a house that backed up to a forest preserve and a corn field that sparked a future dream. He spent all his free time outside, a preference that continues to this day. Animal husbandry comes naturally to him.

 

Gretchen grew up in suburban Kansas City with an appreciation of good food and exceptional home cooking passed down by her mother and grandmother. Farming is in her blood, if not her life experience. Her father’s family were homesteaders and farmers in western Kansas, near Pratt, where they grew wheat and had a dairy herd.
